More than just advising.
We are Fries Financial Consulting
who we are
In 2006, Randy Fries started Fries Financial Consulting Ltd. to serve a niche in the financial advisory market: turnaround and restructuring consulting and mergers and acquisition support.
Accessible and responsive, Fries Financial Consulting is an intentionally small firm designed to partner with companies in making crucial decisions for business health. Fries Financial Consulting works with corporate transitions, engaging in both crisis and growth situations. In any circumstance, we provide quick, creative solutions grounded in experience and investigation. Delivering above and beyond the role of advisor, we work as an internal resource, solving complex corporate issues with a straightforward and simple approach.
Working with private equity and family investment firms, banks and other secured lenders, special loans departments, lawyers, and other professionals to aid small to middle market companies in crisis or transition, we excel in challenging, fast-paced scenarios and draw on established industry relationships to develop optimal solutions.
Looking for a more hands-on approach in the corporate realm, Randy left Ernst & Young, ultimately joining Stantec’s acquisitions team where he gained significant, and practical transaction experience. After leaving Stantec, Randy worked in financial and operational roles in both public and private enterprises, continuing his work in transactional mergers and acquisitions (M&A), ultimately ending up as the President of a Western Canadian manufacturing and services company. Randy then ventured out on his own as a consultant in buy-side M&A and as a contract interim Chief Financial Officer.
Since then, Randy has grown Fries Financial Consulting to specialize in turnarounds and restructuring, where his operational business experience, combined with the practical experience gained while working in the insolvency practice at one of the Big-4 chartered accounting practices, enables him to take challenging situations and create workable plans to restructure companies. Unlike insolvency trustees – whose experience is generally in public accounting, not business operations, and whose focus is winding a company down and liquidating it – Randy works with businesses positioned in the grey area between survival and insolvency.
To demonstrate his knowledge and expertise in corporate renewal work, namely turnarounds and restructuring, Randy earned his Certified Turnaround Professional (CTP) designation, and is currently the only CTA holder in Western Canada. Randy is a member of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA), as well as the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Professionals (INSOL).
Recognizing that he works best in urgent, high-stress situations, Randy has a talent for bringing calm to the chaos.
Randy’s distinctive hands-on approach and business acumen allow him to guide companies through the challenging process of restructuring or undertaking acquisitions successfully. His commitment to honesty, clarity, and accuracy have earned him both trust and respect from all stakeholders as he liaises with management, shareholders, creditors, investment firms, accountants, lawyers, and other professionals. As a result, Fries Financial Consulting is largely referral-based, although we only accept clients after ensuring there is a mutual fit, and that the stakeholders are committed to the road ahead. Whether in turnarounds or buy-side acquisitions, Fries Financial Consulting clients understand and are passionate about their businesses, and are focused, practical, articulate, and willing to change. Because of his unique experience and qualifications, Randy offers a practical, real-world perspective to restructuring and acquisitions that allows him to connect with and relate to company leaders in addition to simplifying complex issues and executing effective strategies.
